7-night all-inclusive Algarve holiday with flights and transfers: a consumer briefing

This briefing examines how seven-night all-inclusive Algarve packages from Ireland and the UK are structured, using published examples involving Dublin, Cork, Bristol, London, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. It covers accommodation, transfers, baggage, travel documents, seasonal conditions, package-travel protections and the practical differences between headline prices and total holiday costs.

A 7-night all-inclusive Algarve holiday with flights and transfers is typically presented as a package combining return air travel, accommodation, meals and drinks, and transport between Faro Airport and the resort. Published examples show that the precise combination depends on the departure airport, hotel, travel date, baggage allowance and board conditions. 1

What the package structure includes

One published Irish itinerary priced at €794 per person covered flights from Dublin, seven nights at the four-star Alvor Baia, all-inclusive accommodation and transfers for travel from 27 September to 4 October 2026. The routing was Dublin to Faro and return, with one item of hand luggage stated as the baggage allowance. The listed price was subject to change and availability, so it represents a dated published example rather than a permanent market rate. 1

Other published package examples illustrate the range of arrangements. A four-star stay at The Navigator, Palm Oasis Alvor was listed from £488 per person with flights, transfers and a checked bag from Manchester, Glasgow or Cardiff in May 2026. A separate Cork itinerary at Alvor Baia was listed at €542 per person for 17 to 24 March 2026, with flights, all-inclusive accommodation and transfers, but only hand luggage stated. 3 5

Departure airports and the Faro connection

Faro Airport is the principal international gateway for the Algarve, serving resorts including Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos and Praia da Rocha. Dublin is the main Irish airport to examine for scheduled Faro services, while Shannon can provide an alternative on selected routes and dates. Published examples also identify Cork as an Irish departure point and Bristol, London and Belfast as UK departure airports. 9 10 1

Transfer duration is not uniform across the region. Albufeira and Vilamoura are generally closer to Faro Airport than Lagos or resorts in the western Algarve, while Alvor sits near Portimão and has appeared repeatedly in the published itineraries reviewed here. The transfer type also matters: the package material may specify shared transport, whereas individual hotel arrangements can instead involve shuttles or local services to beaches and town centres. 9 6

Accommodation differences in Alvor

Alvor Baia is described as a four-star property surrounded by extensive green space, with a beach shuttle, outdoor and indoor pools, a spa and wellness centre, gym, children’s club, play area, children’s pool, sports and entertainment facilities. Room features listed in the published material include air conditioning, a refrigerator, microwave, safety box and cable television. These details indicate a family-oriented resort format rather than a small, centrally located hotel. 1

The Navigator, Palm Oasis Alvor is presented as a four-star property on 24,000 square metres of gardens and lakes, with 152 air-conditioned rooms and suites, furnished balconies, Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, poolside snack bar and access to Alvor Beach and the town centre. By contrast, the five-star Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort is described with six acclimatised pools, five restaurants, a spa, sports areas, a children’s club, splash park, adults-only pool and mini-train service. 4 6

All-inclusive conditions require comparison

“All-inclusive” does not establish a single universal set of benefits. The published hotel descriptions differ in the number of restaurants, snack services, drinks arrangements, entertainment programmes, children’s facilities, pool access and beach transport. A package should therefore be assessed through its board description and hotel terms, including whether à la carte meals, branded drinks, spa treatments, room upgrades or particular activities carry additional charges. 1 6

Beach access can also have different meanings. Alvor Baia provides a shuttle to Praia de Alvor, while Pestana Blue Alvor Beach is directly opposite Três Irmãos Beach and approximately a ten-minute walk from Alvor village. The Pestana property lists three outdoor pools, including children’s, family and over-16 areas, but its indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and jacuzzi are scheduled for closure from 1 June to 30 September 2026. 1 8

Seasonality, documents and baggage

The Algarve has hot, dry summers and comparatively mild winters. July and August are generally the hottest months and are also among the more expensive periods for all-inclusive travel, while winter conditions are quieter and milder. Published examples span March, May, September, October, January and October, demonstrating that a seven-night format is available across different seasons, although the climate and hotel facilities may vary materially by departure date. 11 1 2

Irish citizens can travel to Portugal without a visa, but should carry a valid passport or passport card and check current entry requirements before departure. Portugal is in the Schengen Area, while Ireland is not, so normal travel-document checks apply. Baggage is a separate cost and convenience issue: one Dublin and Cork example specified hand luggage only, whereas the UK examples included a carry-on bag and a 20 or 23 kilogram checked bag. 7 12 1 2

Consumer protection and total-cost checks

A qualifying package holiday receives protections under EU and Irish package-travel rules, including organiser responsibility, assistance obligations and insolvency protection. These safeguards depend on the arrangement meeting the legal definition of a package, so travellers should retain booking documents and identify the organiser responsible for the combined flight and accommodation contract. Separate flight passenger rights can also apply to cancellations, long delays and denied boarding when the flight departs from an EU airport. 13 14

The headline per-person figure is not necessarily the final household cost. Published material warns that prices and availability can change, and one Algarve package page identifies local charges of £8 per person for a five-night city-tax calculation. Comparison should include baggage, transfer type, room occupancy, resort location, board scope, tourist taxes, insurance, cancellation terms and any seasonal facility closures. This approach reduces the risk of comparing unlike packages solely by their advertised starting figures. 1 7
